L\u2019opera proviene dal monastero domenicano di Santa Maria Novella ad Arezzo, andato perduto. Giorgio Vasari realizza la pala per un committente d\u2019onore: monna Cosina Vasari. La moglie dell\u2019artista aveva chiesto all\u2019ormai famoso marito un\u2019opera da poter donare alle monache domenicane delle quali era spesso ospite.
